Inspired by Dada art and the old French riviera - Ann Demeulemeester's S/S 2008 Mens collection blows me away. I was stuck in my seat for about 15 minutes unable to breathe - just clicking outfit after outfit of aesthetic orgasm.
She has taken the core of Dada Art (an anti-war, anti-tradition movement) and translated it to a current statement of "freedom of art and thought". Her suits are daring and bold, her flowy & unusual lines challenge the most daring Japanese designer, and her primary colors: (black, white, gray, navy, bright red, and cream) make the collection extremely relevant to contemporary fashion. (and mind you, she still hasn't completely let go of her gothic undertones)
Needless to say, my love for Ms. Demeulemeester has gone from a general appreciation to a true romance. She is a woman of my eye - and understands an aesthetic unknown to the majority of menswear designers. Not since Hedi revolutionized skinny, high-end rock n roll chic, has a designer excited me this much. Without further delay....
