Even though businesses are losing about $800-$900 million today due to Friday-the-13th phobia, I want to take this time to celebrate a much more fabulous holiday: quartorze juillet, or Bastille Day in the lovely country of France.
Although there was no real victory from the actual rally, the storming of the prison was an important and symbolic act of rebellion, unifying the people against oppression ... and led to France gaining its all important, La Déclaration des droits de l'Homme et du citoyen.
Because French folk use the words 'revolution', 'rally', and 'liberte" freely in everyday conversation, I'm happy to celebrate their ceaseless fight against "l'injustice" on this 14th of july.
And in traditional (culture-butchering) American style, my lovely town is having its annual "Be French For A Day" celebration on the Upper East Side. Six hours of feasting, flag waving, and French can can- ing, that is sure to make even a French woman smile and roll her eyes in delightful disgust.
